Event Description

RSVP your Expression of Interest

for the

Victoria India Service (Design) Jam

during the

State of Design Festival

July 20 – 24, 2011

Stop Press No.2****

Closing off workshop entries July 1 to accommodate interstate workshoppers so get in early.

Stop Press **** Workshop participants will receive free entry to SoD opening night and Design Made Trade for the 4 days!!!!!!! So RSVP

As part of ‘Design Embassy’ you are invited to express interest in participation in a two day Service Jam online with Indian Designers to design a service in Social Innovation.

True to the formula for Service Jams as established during the recent Global Service Jam, a brief will be announced ‘real time’ in India and Melbourne and groups of designers will develop and share ideas using rapid prototyping techniques and design processes to provide vibrant and creative solutions to community problems.

The brief is open but thought should be given to design of a potentially deliverable service.

The workshop would constitute attendance at the State of Design Festival opening night party on Wednesday July 20 at the Royal Exhibition Buildings with the venue open for the workshop Thursday and Friday 21 - 22 July then running through to Sunday.

Ideally it is hoped to have the services presented for display publicly on Saturday & Sunday.

Space at the venue is limited so only 20 participants can be accommodated, selection may be necessary based on experience and/or candour. Preference given to Service Design Melbourne network members (so sign up)

Why should you participate?

As a participant in the Victoria India service jam, you will work through a whole design process in one two day session.

  • Whether you are experienced or completely new to the field, you will learn more about service design.
  • You will pick up a load of new ideas and work practices.
  • You will meet a lot of cool people at all levels of experience.
  • Your work and ideas will be reviewed by your peers, and presented to the world, where they can be seen by potential customers or employers.
  • You will design something that may become a real business.
  • You might get rich and famous.
  • You will certainly have a blast.

How can you participate?

the rules for participants at the Jam are basic, they are:

  • Sign up by RSVP in advance, rsvp through Service Design Network, event brite or Festival website
  • Show up on time.
  • You'll probably find it useful to follow the Jam on twitter (to be advised)
  • Bring any special tools you need.
  • Do not bring a team or an idea. These will form at the Jam.
  • Do not bring pre-made content. The services developed at the Jam should be new.
  • Work together in a spirit of conversation and co-operation.
  • Be prepared to share the results of your work under a Creative Commons license.
  • Have fun!

Rules above reworked with permission from the GSJam team

Thanks Mark,

I still buzzing from the Global Service Design Jam earlier this year.

A great way to meet some amazing people and make some new friends in the industry. And fun drinks afterwards catching up. Especially off the back of participating in and OpenIDEO event in Brisbane which demonstrated the power of collaborating on ideas from anywhere in the globe

Hello All and thanks for th early bird rsvp's, it helps greatly in organising things.

As the project is unfolding it is necessary in accommodating all parties to run the Jam workshop on the Thursday and Friday, July 21 - 22.

I hope this won't inconvenience you too much but it is a necessary move. The Jam site will still be open on Saturday and Sunday but most of the creative work will have been put to bed.

You could try to persuade your employer that the workshop is valuable Professional Develoment or take annual leave if you a really keen, or just (I was tempted to say pull a sicky but that would be unAustralian).

Anyway I hope you can make as there is the possiblity of some exciting developments in the project over the next 2 weeks so stay tuned.

I am looking to put the project up on eventbrite but will still run comments and rsvp registration on this site.

Cheers
